Today, Springfield Technical Community College will launch the Heart of a Man series, a virtual series aiming to engage men  in dialogue on topics of identity, gender stereotypes, interpersonal violence, race, politics and social justice. Each event will feature a panel of men from diverse backgrounds, professions and experiences who will share their stories and engage in dialogue with participants.

The series is a labor of love and collaboration between the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the #STCCWeCan initiative, which seeks to engage the campus community in preventing sexual and relationship violence.  #STCCWeCan is supported by a Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Program Grant.

Heart of a Man will feature a range of experts, community leaders and campus members who will share their stories connected to a range of topics, from fatherhood and healthy masculinity to gender stereotypes and men’s role in ending sexual and relationship violence. The series seeks to uplift examples of how men engage from the heart in creating healthy relationships, healthy communities, and platforms for social change.

The first event will kick off on Thursday, Oct. 22 and is entitled “From the Heart: A Dialogue on Healthy Masculinity.”  The panel will include both acclaimed authors and international speakers, as well as local community voices.  STCC Faculty member Brian Candido, Department Chair of Computer and Information Technologies, will be one of the four speakers of the first session.
