The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) induction ceremony was a memorable and truly inspiring occasion for the 63 students who were formally welcomed into the honor society. Although some of us had been part of PTK since last fall, March 25, 2026, marked the day we were officially inducted into this prestigious international honor society. It was the beginning of an exciting journey for our newest members and a proud celebration of academic excellence, leadership, service, fellowship, and personal growth.
The days leading up to the ceremony were filled with excitement and anticipation. One of our officers, Yaw Anum, took the lead in organizing the event. He decorated the auditorium stage in the PTK colors of blue and gold. He arranged blue string lights over tall fig trees from our greenhouse and helped create an elegant setting with overflowing white roses in tall gold vases. Another officer, Rose Raucci, created a large golden key and Vice President Emelia Mensah set up the traditional elements of the ceremony.

Each symbol had a profound significance: the white rose represented purity of purpose, the golden key symbolized achievement and opportunity, the candlelight reminded us of knowledge, wisdom, and the light of learning. One of my favorite memories was practicing the beautiful PTK song. Our rehearsals were filled with giggles, off-note singing and those moments brought us closer together. My favorite lyrics from the song are, “May we help each other giving, strength to those who need our aid,” a touching reminder of the service and volunteering spirit which is at the heart of PTK.
As Chapter President, I was deeply honored to welcome our newest members and kept the traditional order of this prestigious ceremony. We were delighted to have President Dr. Cook, Vice President Dr. Thuot, administrators, deans, faculty, families, and friends join us for this special evening. Dr. Thuot a steadfast supporter of our chapter, delivered an inspiring message. He recognized the dedication, perseverance, and hard work that earned the inductees their place in PTK. He also reminded us that this membership is a resume builder and opens doors to scholarships, transfer opportunities, leadership development, service, and fellowship with other high-achieving students. Our chapter advisor, Dr. Randhir, empowered us to see it as a powerful platform where students can discover their potential, strengthen their confidence, lead with purpose, and use our talents to make a lasting difference in our campus and community.
Another exciting moment was when the inductees solemnly took the oath, promising to uphold the hallmarks. Each new member was warmly recognized, received a certificate, and shook hands with Dr. Cook, Dr. Thuot and administrators. As they lit their candles in promise, the room seemed to glow with a shared sense of purpose and hope.
This year has been especially rewarding because our hard work paid off- since our chapter earned Five Star status and was honored as a Most Distinguished Chapter in 2026. We also won first prize for our Honors in Action project, which promoted environmental sustainability through storytelling, while our College Project strengthened student belonging by celebrating student work. I was grateful to receive a $1,000 scholarship, and Fathima Yusraah received the Distinguished Chapter Member Award. I look forward to seeing our chapter grow, create meaningful impact, and earn even more recognition in the future.
As the ceremony came to a close, students eagerly gathered to take photos with President Cook and other administrators, capturing memories of a night we will always remember. Guests then enjoyed delicious refreshments, continuing the celebration in the spirit of fellowship.
This evening reminded us that PTK membership is more than a title. It is a privilege, and golden opportunity. It calls us to grow as scholars, serve with purpose, lead with courage, and support one another. Congratulations and welcome to the newly inducted members of the Alpha Psi Sigma Chapter at STCC. Let’s Go PTK!
