Springfield Technical Community College student Aminah Bergeron stopped by campus Thursday to start her deliveries.

Bergeron led a collection drive for Afghan refugees who have been arriving in Western Massachusetts. They are in need of basic amenities such as clothing and hygiene products. Bergeron organized the effort with fellow SGA leaders.

Bergeron’s effort caught the attention of WWLP, 22-News, which came back to interview her on Thursday, the day the collection effort ended.

Bergeron thanked the campus community and friends of STCC for donating a variety of items. The collection drive yielded winter clothing, blankets, kitchenware and necessities such as shampoo and toothpaste.

“This will help families who have been struggling,” she said. “I want to thank everyone who donated, including members of the SGA.”

Bergeron was in touch with local businesses and community organizations to help with the collection effort.

She plans to load up her car and make trips to the families in the area who have settled her after leaving Afghanistan. The Afghans have sought refuge here after leaving their country in the wake of the Taliban taking control of the country.
