Springfield Technical Community College hosted a career fair focusing on internships, job shadowing and volunteer work on Feb. 12.
The event in the Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons brought together local employers eager to connect with STCC students and alumni to fill immediate openings for spring and summer internships. Both paid and unpaid positions were available, offering participants valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to build their professional networks, said Nathan Andary, Director of Career Services at STCC.

Andary emphasized the significance of the event for students and alumni. “We’re hosting our first-ever internship, job shadowing, and volunteer fair here for STCC,” he said.
“For the alumni, the students, and all that attend, these opportunities are here for you. We have employers across all disciplines looking for help that is paid and unpaid and will give you the experience that you need as you go into the workforce. You need a reference, you need experience. You can have it right here,” Andary said.
The career fair featured positions in diverse fields such as:
- Healthcare (Dental Hygiene, Imaging, Rehab Therapy, Pharmacy, LPNs)
- Technology and Design (IT/Cybersecurity, Communications, Design, Social Media)
- Business and Administration (Public Relations, Marketing, Human Resources, Administrative)
- Public Service and Education (Criminal Justice, Teaching, Child/Family Welfare, Direct Care Support)
- Skilled Trades and Other Roles (Construction, Landscape, Workshop Leader and more)
Each participant received a comprehensive folder listing all the attending employers and their available internship opportunities, helping them navigate the event efficiently.
Yarielis Rivera, an STCC student studying Criminal Justice, attended the career fair in search of opportunities in her field of study. “I just registered. I’m hoping to be here, talk to some employers, and maybe find an internship,” Rivera said, reflecting on her hopes to jumpstart her career.
Marquis Murray, another STCC student, shared his enthusiasm about the event. “I just started, and it’s been such a great start to my journey here. I’ve been looking forward to this career fair. This event is absolutely wonderful. I’ve already been able to find my wife something too. You can’t beat something like this. Come to STCC, man!”
STCC continues to strengthen its commitment to student success by bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world experience. By connecting students and alumni with employers from various industries, STCC’s Career Services is paving the way for brighter futures and empowering the next generation of professionals.
