The Westfield Starfires baseball game on July 16 attracted faculty, staff and students for what was billed as “STCC Day.”

Dressed in blue jeans and short-sleeved maroon STCC shirt, President John B. Cook tossed the first pitch to start the game at Bullens Field.

Miguel Maria, director of the Male Initiative for Leadership and Education (MILE) program, brought students with him. MILE is a program designed to provide inclusive academic support, mentoring, and community engagement opportunities to male students at Springfield Technical Community College.

“It was a fun event for students who were able to go to Westfield to catch a baseball game on a nice summer day,” Maria said.

He added with a laugh, “When I say nice, it was super hot!”

“Students enjoyed it. They were able to be part of a great atmosphere. There was a great turnout from staff as well. STCC was very well represented at the ballgame,” Maria said.

STCC Day was an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to get complimentary admission to the ballgame. The Starfires went up against the Worcester Bravehearts. There were contests and prizes. STCC mascot Rowdy the Ram was on hand to pose for photos.
