Surgical Technology students last week showcased their program in the lobby of Building 20. The setting up equipment and held a sterile gown contest and a bake sale during an event scheduled over four days.

Student Luis Diaz said he applied to the surgical technology program because he wants to help people and health care runs in the family.

“My dad works at a hospital, so I grew up in hospitals,” he said. “I always wanted to work in the hospital.”

He said the surgical tech program is challenging but rewarding. The first-year student is excited for what’s to come.

The surgical technology program can lead to opportunities in a high-demand field. Surgical techs help surgeons with the tasks of making incisions, placing clamps and closing surgical sites. They prepare operating rooms and arrange equipment. To learn more about the program, visit stcc.edu/explore/programs/surg.as/
